What Makes the Cardinal a better fit for women?
Many women have learned to compensate for knives that feel oversized, poorly balanced, or difficult to stabilize. The Cardinal is designed to change that—so control comes from shape, balance, and technique, not from gripping harder.
- The wider handle end creates a secure stopping point. Rather than having to clamp down on a long handle to keep it from shifting toward your wrist, your hand has a stable place to anchor.
- The curves near the throat support your fingers. They create a natural place for your fingers to rest, reducing the full-hand “death grip” that can make prep tiring during repetitive chopping.
- The pinch guard makes a proper pinch grip more accessible. It creates a supported bridge between blade and handle, giving your thumb and forefinger a comfortable place to guide the knife. Instead of tightly pinching a bare blade with no ergonomic connection to the handle, you have a secure point of control built into the knife.
- Blade-forward momentum reduces the force you have to supply. When cutting a dense sweet potato or winter squash, a handle-heavy or poorly balanced knife can make you press down harder and recruit your wrist. The Cardinal places more working weight in the blade, helping it carry through the ingredient while your hand guides the cut.
- Control sits closer to your strongest working position. By centering the knife around the pinch-guard area rather than a long rear handle, the Cardinal reduces the leverage that can pull effort into the wrist and forearm.
- It supports the pinch technique from the first hold. Pinch grip is a professional technique that improves control, precision, and safety for every cook. For women in particular, it helps create control through position and leverage—not by requiring maximum grip force.
Aside from the function and feel of the knife itself, we also wanted to improve the way a knife fits into your cooking life.
- Dishwasher safe, so you have more time to cook. A great knife should not create another precious object you have to worry about maintaining after every meal.
- Sharpening without losing your knife for weeks. Our sharpening service is designed so you are not expected to have the time, equipment, or technical knowledge to sharpen your own knife—and you are not left without the knife you use every day. A sharp knife is a safer knife: it moves predictably through food instead of slipping, crushing, or requiring unnecessary force.
- A safety cover with every knife. Store the Cardinal in the way that works for your home—whether in a drawer, on a shelf, or elsewhere—while helping protect your fingers and the blade’s edge. The Cardinal was designed not only to feel better in your hand, but to make the entire experience of owning, using, storing, and caring for a chef’s knife feel easier.

How To Know Your Chef Knife Fits?
To test it, use a proper pinch technique: place your thumb and index finger on the blade (for most knives) or on our pinch guard area just in front of the handle, and let your other three fingers curl naturally around the handle. Then relax your hand. If your index finger feels secure and comfortable, your other fingers can rest without a death grip, and the end of the handle lands around the heel of your palm, that knife fits you. If your fingertips dig into your palm, the handle extends past your palm, or your wrist twists to keep the edge straight, it is not you; it is the wrong handle for your hand.
